Services

We provide mobile and telehealth (online) paediatric speech pathology services across the City of Casey, including Berwick, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Clyde and surrounding areas in South Eastern Melbourne. We focus on improving quality of life through meaningful, evidence-based and person-centred speech pathology services.

The Hungry Chatterpillar’s Speech Pathologists are Certified Practising Speech Pathologists and are registered members of Speech Pathology Australia.

​

Our Speech Pathologists have completed additional training in the following courses and programs:​

​

  • The Lidcombe Program

  • Key Word Sign

  • Cued Articulation

  • Diagnosis and Treatment of CAS Using Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC)

Screening Assessments

Your child may benefit from a screening assessment if they experience difficulties with any of the following areas:

​

  • Difficulties with speech sounds

  • Frustration when trying to communicate

  • Limited vocabulary

  • Disorganised sentence structure

 

A screening assessment will allow us to understand your child’s areas of strengths and weaknesses to determine the appropriateness of treatment and/or further assessment.

Funding Options

There are many types of funding available in Australia.

 

Private Health: Your child may be eligible for private health funding if your private health insurance extras cover Speech Pathology services. Contact your health fund to find out if you have coverage. Please note that you cannot claim through both Medicare and your Private Health insurance for the same session.

 

Medicare: The Speech Pathologists at The Hungry Chatterpillar are registered Medicare Australia Providers and can provide services under a rebate program for children who qualify for the Chronic Disease Management Program (Enhanced Primary Care). If deemed eligible by your General Practitioner, your child may be entitled to up to 5 rebated sessions per calendar year. 

 

NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme): If you are an NDIS participant, The Speech Chatterpillar welcomes all PLAN-MANAGED and SELF-MANAGED clients.

At The Hungry Chatterpillar, we provide assessment and evidence-based treatment for children who experience any of the following:

​

  • Has difficulties saying some sounds

  • Is difficult to understand

  • Has difficulty following directions

  • Has difficulty understanding what others are saying

  • Has difficulties forming sentences

  • Fluency (stuttering) in children aged 3-6

​

If you suspect that your child is displaying difficulties in any of the areas above, we recommend getting in touch with us for an assessment, where you will be provided with a report, including our treatment recommendations.

*Please note that prior to assessment, we strongly recommend that your child's hearing is tested to ensure that his or her hearing is adequate for speech and language development.

The Hungry Chatterpillar offers a range of assessments, including screening assessments, language assessments, and school funding assessments.

Language Assessments

Your child may benefit from a formal language assessment if you require a more in-depth understanding of your child’s language difficulties in comparison to other children of the same age.
